Governor of Erbil: No one should be permitted to take advantage of Newroz and the holy month of Ramadan to raise the prices of food and goods for Erbil residents
Thursday, March 16, 2023, in the office of the Erbil Governorate, under the supervision of Governor Omed Khoshnaw and in the presence of the Deputy Governor, Hemin Qadir, the Erbil Central Mayor, Nabaz Abdul Hamid, and the Director of Internal Affairs in the governorate, Colonel Khosrow Ghazi, a special meeting was held to discuss "preventing the prices of materials and basic needs for citizens from increasing and controlling the market."
The meeting emphasized that "as Newroz and the holy month of Ramadan approach, careful monitoring of the market, prices, commodities, and all citizens' needs must be observed."
The governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, the District Mayor Committee to take strict measures against anyone who raises the prices of materials and citizens' needs, and to not allow anyone to take advantage of the upcoming Newroz holidays and the blessed month of Ramadan by playing in the market and raising the prices of foodstuffs and necessities, crucial for citizens.
About keeping restaurants open during the holy month of Ramadan, the governor of Erbil stated, "restaurants have the flexibility to choose, and they will implement the decision in a manner that respects the beginning of the holy month."
In conclusion, it was determined that, in addition to rigorous monitoring campaigns of the market, pricing, commodities, and residents' demands, the inspection campaign must be intensified and defective and expired foods and medications must be confiscated.
