The Governor of Erbil receives a delegation of European Union experts from the EU mission in Iraq and Kurdistan

Omed Khoshnaw, governor of Erbil, received a delegation of advisers to the European Union mission led by Anders Wiberg, head of experts to the European Union mission in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, at the governorate's office today, Monday, September 18, 2023.

‏During the meeting, the guest delegation expressed gratitude to the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Ministry of Interior, and the Erbil Governorate for the facilities, support, and assistance provided in the areas of organized crime, drug combat, humanitarian crises and natural disasters, and how to assist civilians.

They mentioned the opening of various courses for security personnel and ranks throughout Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. ‏

The Governor of Erbil, for his part, welcomed the guest delegation and praised them for their efforts in the Kurdistan Region. "We are aware of your work and appreciate your decision to remain in the Kurdistan Region," he remarked. We promise you that Erbil Governorate, as well as all relevant ministries and institutions in Erbil Governorate, are prepared to provide all necessary amenities."
 

The Governor of Erbil then evaluated the security services' efforts to combat organized crime and drugs. He also discussed the implementation of the law and sanctions for drug trafficking in the Kurdistan Region, as well as the plan to create a drug-cleaning center. He praised government agencies and civil society organizations for their ongoing efforts to educate young people about the risks of drugs.
 

Another topic of discussion during the conference was the humanitarian crisis and climate change and its hazards, which are today seen as a global issue and have touched the Kurdistan Region in general and Erbil in particular, emphasizing the importance of ongoing coordination and cooperation.
