Istanbul... The third  session of the meeting of Mayors for Peace and Cooperation in the Middle East and North Africa

Today, Friday, December 13, 2024, within the framework of the Mayors meeting for Peace and Cooperation in the Middle East and North Africa, with the participation of Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, the third session of the meeting commenced.
 

The discussion, which was focused on “Urban Development by Local Governments,” featured a presentation by Professor Daron Acemoglu, Nobel laureate in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as well as contributions from omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, and the mayors of Casablanca and Kilis, along with an advisor for Istanbul Municipality. Following the presentation, representatives of the cities participated in discussions and shared their perspectives on the topic.

 

In the speech, the Governor of Erbil highlighted the history of the city and shed light on the changes and progress achieved in Erbil. He explained that if it weren’t for the economic challenges and the oppression and injustice from Baghdad, particularly in cutting salaries and the budget of the Kurdistan Region, the capital Erbil would have been more developed and prosperous.
 

He then discussed the professional and economic relationships, emphasizing that Erbil’s doors are open to all companies and investors to operate in the city. He added that, as the Erbil Governorate, they provide every possible facilitation in accordance with the laws and guidelines of the Kurdistan Region to support and assist them.
