Erbil Governor Welcomes Canadian Parliamentary Delegation

Today, Sunday, June 28, 2026, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, received a delegation from the Canadian-Kurdish Friendship Group in the Canadian Parliament at the Governor's office. The delegation included Ziad Aboultaif, Conservative Member of Parliament for Edmonton Manning, and Ahmed Hussen, a Member of Parliament from the Liberal Party, who is also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and former Minister of both International Development and Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship.

During the meeting, the visiting delegation praised the stability, peaceful coexistence, and continuous development and prosperity observed in Erbil city. They gave a brief overview of their group's work and activities in their country's parliament and stated that the main goal of their visit was to further develop relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Canadian government. They also expressed their country's readiness to strengthen bilateral ties in various fields.

For his part, the Governor of Erbil expressed his pleasure at their visit and thanked Canada for its support and cooperation. He reiterated the Kurdistan Region's desire to further advance and promote relations between both sides.
He highlighted Erbil's service and infrastructure projects, mentioning steps taken for environmental clean-up, lighting projects, 24-hour electricity provision, and the fundamental solution to the water scarcity problem through rapid emergency water supply projects.

He also touched upon flood control solutions through the construction of several ponds and dams to control water sources and protect the city. He also emphasized the governorate's desire to benefit from Canada's expertise in local development projects and joint ventures, and to further encourage Canadian companies to invest in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.
