District of Shaqlawa

The District of Shaqlawa is composed of three Sub-Districts: Hiran, Salahaddin, and Hareer, in addition to 210 villages. Shaqlawa became a Sub-District in the Ottoman epoch, and in 1952, it became a District. It lies 50km from the city of Erbil.

It is situated on the versant of Sefin Mountain, in a large valley covered with dense forests and gardens. It enjoys pure air, clear atmosphere, moderate temperatures, very cold in winter with much rain and snow.

Shaqlawa is considered an important touristic city in Iraqi Kurdistan, attracting tourists in all Iraq and the region, as well as some tourists from the Gulf countries.
