The Erbil master plan has been approved and will soon enter the implementation phase
On the evening of Sunday, September 29, 2024, with the presence of Sasan Awni, Minister of Municipalities, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, Kaita Tsuchiya, Deputy Director of JICA in Iraq, Masashi Nishikawa, JICA Project Formulation Advisor, and a number of general directors, managers, representatives of relevant ministries and departments, and a team of engineers, a ceremony was held for the approval procedures of the amended plans for Erbil's Master Plan, so that it can be implemented in the near future.
During the ceremony, Sasan Awni, Minister of Municipalities, in a speech, thanked JICA and all the teams from the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism who have been working on this project for more than two years. He expressed his happiness with the approval of the project plans. Regarding the amended Erbil Master Plan project, he emphasized that in the revision of Erbil's Master Plan project, 26 visions have been developed in several different areas, and several strategies have been prepared to achieve these visions. The land use map has also been determined based on these principles.
He also stated that in the project, the role of the city as an international commercial center and the characteristics of Erbil as the capital of the Kurdistan Region and a tourism center have been considered. Additionally, issues such as water, sewage, electricity, environment, industry, economy, culture, transportation and communication, flood prevention, public services, and several other areas have been included and worked on in this project.
For his part, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, in a speech congratulated the people of Erbil and spoke about the importance of the project for the reconstruction and development of Erbil city until 2050.
He also pointed out that the revision of Erbil's Master Plan will take the city into a new phase. He also thanked the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism and the JICA agency teams for their role in all sectors of Erbil city. Moreover, he pointed out that the revision of the Master Plan will scientifically impact the city's growth and lead Erbil into a new phase.
It's worth noting that the aim of revising Erbil's Master Plan is to guide the development and reorganization of Erbil city until 2050.
