This morning, Sunday, December 7, 2025, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, received Mr. Seungcheol Lim, the Consul General of South Korea in Erbil and the Deputy and staff of KOICA Korea at the Governorate Diwan.


In that meeting, which was attended by Brigadier General Kamil Barzanji, Director of Erbil Police, and Brigadier General Khosraw, Director of Internal Affairs of Erbil Governorate, the Consul General of South Korea in Erbil reiterated his thanks to the Governor of Erbil for the existing relationship, coordination, and cooperation between them. He also referred to their latest activity, which was the opening of the Zaitun Library, which the Koreans had undertaken to renovate.


The Consul General of South Korea in Erbil emphasized that the work on the Zaitun Library had received full attention in the South Korean media for several days, and a report was prepared on the opening ceremony of the library, which was opened by the Governor of Erbil with importance and appreciation in front of readers.

In response, the Governor of Erbil, while warmly welcoming them, conveyed the thanks of His Excellency Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of Kurdistan, for their previous work and the importance of renovating the Zaitun Library, which had received significant attention in several media channels, especially in South Korea.

The Governor of Erbil clearly outlined the relationship and friendship between Erbil Governorate and the Consulate General of South Korea, which has its own characteristics, because Korea has continuously carried out general educational, health, cultural, and artistic service projects, and other fields, and has always been the owner of strategic constructive projects.
They have also been significant helpers and donors to the crisis section in Erbil Governorate, so we always reiterate that Korea has been a friend of the people of Kurdistan in words and deeds.


The Governor of Erbil hoped that in order to strengthen this friendship, further development of economic and trade relations between the Kurdistan Region and South Korea would be given.


In another aspect of the meeting, the recent events in Lajan village were highlighted, and it was confirmed that the situation has returned to normal, and there is nothing to worry about. 

Finally, the Consul General of South Korea in Erbil thanked the Governor of Erbil very much for the meeting and the opportunity he provided for them.
