Russian Consul General in Erbil: "Russia has a long history of friendship with the Kurdish people".

During the meeting, the governor congratulated Maxim Robin on assuming the office and hoped that the diplomatic relations between the Kurdistan Region and Russia would take a bigger leap.

The Russian Consul General in Erbil stressed the long-standing relations between the Kurdish people and Russia, the fact that Russia has a long history of friendship with the Kurdish people, he cited the visits of Sheikh Abdulsalam Barzani and the stay of the late General Barzani in Russia as an example, this is in addition to the long relationship between the former Soviet Union and the Kurdish revolutions. He said the Russians are closer to the Middle Eastern nations in many ways, and among these nations, Kurdish-Russian relations have a long historical dimension, going back to two centuries. The governor of Erbil and the Russian consul general in Erbil agreed that the historical relations between Kurds and Russia should continue on the same historical path and move from diplomatic relations to economic cooperation, as the big Russian oil companies such as Gazprom and Rosneft are now doing to develop natural gas, they play an important role in the Kurdistan Region.

The governor of Erbil stressed that the Kurdish people will not forget the historical positions of Russia and called Russia's policy an honest policy with its allies. The meeting exchanged views on the current situation in the Kurdistan Region in general and Erbil in particular. Both sides stressed the importance of creating the conditions for deepening these relations in a way that serves the interests of both Kurds and Russia.
