Erbil…Italy Appoints New Commander for its Forces in Kurdistan Region
This evening, Sunday, July 20, 2025, in a ceremony attended by Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil; the Italian Consul General in Erbil; and a number of other military commanders and party and government officials, a change of command for the Italian forces within the Coalition was held.
During the ceremony, Stefano Pizzotti assumed his duties as the commander of Italian forces in the Kurdistan Region, succeeding Antonello Andreottola, the outgoing commander of the Italian army forces.
During the ceremony, the Governor of Erbil, while offering his congratulations, thanked the Civil-Military Cooperation team of the Italian forces. He highly valued the role of the Italian forces and their support and assistance, particularly in the field of training the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces, and expressed his hope that their coordination and partnership with the Peshmerga forces will be further enhanced.
It is noteworthy that Italy has numerous advisors and soldiers in the Kurdistan Region who train Peshmerga forces as part of the International Coalition against ISIS
