Erbil Governor Receives the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil

Today, Monday, July 21, 2025, Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, received Faramarz Asadi, the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil, at the Governorate's office.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Shakir Hussein, the official for relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the two sides discussed the relations between Iran and the Kurdistan Region and several other related issues.
 

The discussion then focused on the upcoming visit of Mr. Reza Rahmani, the Governor of West Azerbaijan (Urmia). He is scheduled to visit Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, at the beginning of next week, accompanied by a high-level economic and trade delegation from his province.
The visit aims to further develop relations between his province and the capital, Erbil, and to strengthen the existing agreement between them in the economic, trade, and industrial fields.

In this regard, the Governor of Erbil expressed his pleasure over the planned visit. In another part of the meeting, the discussion turned to the reception of Iranian pilgrims for the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein by the Kurdistan Region, which is scheduled to begin early next month through the Haji Omran international border crossing. For this purpose, both sides followed up on the preparations.

The Governor of Erbil reiterated his assurance that, by a directive from President Barzani, both the President of the Kurdistan Region and the Prime Minister have been tasked with overseeing the process. He stated that, learning from the experiences of past years, the Erbil Governorate will welcome and serve the Iranian pilgrims all the way from the Haji Omran border point to the final point of the governorate at the Sherawa checkpoint.

He affirmed, "This year, we will provide a reception that is better than in past years, in the best possible manner, and we will offer all necessary facilities.

" Finally, the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil reiterated his and his country's thanks and praise to President Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region, and the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region for their hospitality and generosity in the annual reception of Iranian pilgrims traveling through the Kurdistan Region to participate in the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein.
