A special meeting was held to reduce routine, register excess houses, and convert cards to documents
On Monday, February 13, 2023, a special meeting was held in the Governor’s office of Erbil under the supervision of the Minister of Justice, Dr. Farsat Ahmad, Minister of Tourism and Municipalities, Sasan Awni, and Governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, regarding the ownership of excess houses within municipalities border, all parties concerned were instructed to do everything possible to resolve and run the transactions of house registration, in a manner that guarantees the interest of low-income citizens with the aim of ending the transgression of public property and reduce routine in government institutions and improve services for citizens.
The meeting was called by the recommendation of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, and was attended by various government officials including the Deputy Governor, Assistant Governor, Head of Erbil Municipality, and directors from various departments such as municipality, agriculture, and real estate registration.
In addition, the meeting discussed the problems of Bafrzon area, particularly in the neighborhoods (Ta'jil, Arab, Khanaqa), which is related to the ownership of houses in these neighborhoods as well as its technical, administrative, and legal issues.
Finally, the meeting addressed the conversion of house registration cards into documents. There are currently (35,000) cards in the General Directorate of Municipalities and (143,000) cards in the Erbil Municipality Presidency. Since 2013, the Municipalities Presidency has registered 123000 cards. So far (10,000) cards have been registered in the General Directorate of Municipalities since November 2021.
The Presidency of Erbil Municipality, General Directorate of Municipalities, Erbil General Directorate of Agriculture and the Card and Certificate Unit have been assigned to work with the Erbil General Directorate of Real Estate Registration to complete the legal and technical procedures for all remaining cards.
