On the evening of Wednesday, March 20, 2024, amidst the presence of various dignitaries including the Minister of Interior, Head of the PDK Organizational Bureau in Erbil, Minister of Municipalities, Erbil Governor, leaders, and representatives of political parties, officials from the 2nd and 16th branches of the PDK, as well as other party and government officials, along with the esteemed families of the martyrs, a ceremony was held by the Erbil Governorate to ignite the Newroz fire and celebrate the Kurdish New Year 2724 at the Erbil Citadel.

During a press conference with the media, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw extended his congratulations to the people of Kurdistan at large and specifically to the residents of Erbil on the occasion of Newroz and the Kurdish New Year.

He remarked, "In past years, the festivities spanned approximately 10 days for Newroz and the Kurdish New Year. However, this year, it will only last for one day due to the holy month of Ramadan. We hope that Newroz and the Kurdish New Year will mark a year of realizing the dreams and aspirations of the people of the Kurdistan Region."

He expressed gratitude, stating, "We appreciate the dedication of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) employees who, like Peshmergas, persist in their duties within government offices, despite the delay in salary payments from Baghdad."

He highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government to secure the rights and entitlements of the people of the Kurdistan Region.

He asserted, "Those seeking to diminish the Kurdistan Region should heed history. Throughout history, any regime that opposed the aspirations of the people of the Kurdistan Region has faced downfall."
