 Erbil: Iranian Delegation Meets with Kurdistan Region Governors and Supervisors, Chaired by KRG Interior Minister Rebar Ahmad

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Rebar Ahmad took place. It was attended by Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw, Sulaymaniyah Governor Haval Abubakr, Duhok Governor Dr. Ali Tatar, Halabja Governor Azad Tofiq, Supervisor of Soran Independent Administration Halgurd Sheikh Najib, Supervisor of Garmian Independent Administration Sheikh Jalal, Hemn Mirani, Director General of the Office of the Ministry of Interior, Director General of Haji Omaran International Community, President of the Chamber of Commerce and a number of other officials, they met with a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Iranian delegation included Mohammad Sadegh Motamdian, the Governor of West Azerbaijan (Urmia), Ismail Zaraei Kusha, the Governor of Sanaa, Mohammad Tayeb Sa'ravi, the Governor of Kermanshah, along with several other parliamentarians and the two Iranian Consuls General in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.

The meeting also addressed the significance of enhancing political relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iran. They discussed the recent visit of a high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government to the funeral of the late Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and his entourage, conveying the condolences of the people of the Kurdistan Region. This gesture was described as pivotal during the discussions.
 

Moreover, they underscored the longstanding historical ties between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the various stages of this relationship. Both parties emphasized the ongoing coordination on shared issues. They expressed mutual hopes for advancing relations, particularly in economic and trade domains, which currently stand at nearly $1 billion.
 

Additionally, the meeting addressed the arrival of Iranian pilgrims to Najaf and Karbala via the Kurdistan Region. It was affirmed that all necessary preparations and amenities would be arranged to welcome the pilgrims, including accommodation, meals, public services, and transportation to the sacred sites in southern Iraq.
