Erbil Governor and French Consul affirm joint cooperation and coordination
On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw received French Consul General Yann Braem and his accompanying delegation at the Governor's Office.
During the meeting, Governor Khoshnaw congratulated the French Consul and his delegation on the French National Day. He noted that President Barzani's attendance at the French National Day celebration underscores the depth of relationship, affection, solidarity, partnership, and friendship between the Kurdish and French people.
The Governor thanked the French government and people for their assistance to the people and government of the Kurdistan Region. He called for continued cooperation between the two sides in combating terrorism in the region.
Governor Khoshnaw also mentioned a project to build a bicycle path in Erbil, saying, "We have greatly benefited from Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo's ideas through her project that saved Paris from traffic congestion. We in Erbil want to take a step in this direction."
He added that to make this project successful, protect the environment, reduce negative climate impacts, and ease congestion, they are trying to learn from the experience of Francophone cities.
The French Consul thanked the Erbil Governor for the warm reception and emphasized the development and strengthening of historical relations and friendship between the Kurdish people and France. He expressed his pleasure at the Erbil Governor's participation in the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, scheduled from July 26 to August 11.
The political process in the Kurdistan Region and preparations for parliamentary elections were also discussed. The French Consul wished success for this process. To affirm the friendship between the two peoples, both sides agreed to organize a suitable ceremony at Erbil Citadel on the occasion of the start of the Olympic Games in Paris, emphasizing the depth of historical friendship between Paris and Erbil.
