The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government inaugurates the British International University in Erbil
The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, inaugurated the British International University in Erbil today, Saturday, September 7, 2024, during a ceremony attended by several officials and academic figures.
In his speech at the ceremony, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the university in bringing British educational experiences to the Kurdistan Region, which will contribute to raising the level of education and strengthening cultural, scientific, and economic relations between the region and the United Kingdom.
He emphasized that Kurdistan possesses a young human resource base that needs investment in education to ensure a bright future for its generations. He stressed that establishing world-class universities contributes to developing the capabilities of youth in various fields by preparing skilled experts and professionals to participate in the region's development journey.
He added that scientific research should be a key focus in advancing higher education, pointing out that there is a shortage of research in many sectors. He called on universities to collaborate with international academic institutions to conduct joint research in fields such as agriculture, industry, economy, and the environment.
He explained that this university could serve as a cornerstone in enhancing research cooperation with the United Kingdom, benefiting from Britain's extensive experience in this area. He also emphasized the importance of environmental projects at the university, such as creating a water pond and allocating large spaces for renewable energy and green areas, reflecting its commitment to environmental protection and addressing the negative impacts of climate change.
The Prime Minister expressed his hope that all universities and academic centers would play their role and take responsibility in addressing environmental challenges. He emphasized the importance of students taking advantage of the opportunities provided by this university and other academic institutions to become role models in serving their country.
