On the Anniversary of Erbil's Twinning with Nashville, the Governor of Erbil Meets the Mayor of Nashville via Video Conference

On the evening of Monday, September 9, 2024, the Governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, met via video conference with Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell, Patsy Cottrell, Chair of the Twinning Board, and other board members from both sides, on the occasion of the anniversary of the official signing of the twinning agreement between Erbil and Nashville.
 

During the meeting, the Governor of Erbil emphasized the importance of the twinning agreement between the city of Erbil and Nashville, USA, which aims to strengthen and develop relations between the United States and the Kurdistan Region in the fields of culture, economy, tourism, trade, and investment. He also congratulated the citizens of Erbil and Nashville on the anniversary of the signing of the agreement and thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government's representation in Washington, the U.S. Consulate in Erbil, and everyone who contributed to the success of the twinning process between the two cities.
 

The Governor of Erbil added, "The real work begins after the signing of the agreement," noting that Erbil is committed to all the terms of the agreement and seeks to develop and strengthen relations at all levels and in all fields.
 

At the end of the meeting, the Governor of Erbil extended an official invitation to the Mayor of Nashville, the Chair, and all members of the Twinning Board to visit Erbil.
 

For their part, the Mayor of Nashville and the members of the Twinning Board expressed their happiness on the one-year anniversary of the agreement, considering this an important and significant achievement, describing the day as historic.
 

It is worth mentioning that Governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, and the then-Mayor of Nashville, John Cooper, officially signed the twinning agreement between Erbil and Nashville on September 9, 2023, in a special ceremony attended by political figures from the Kurdistan Region and the United States, along with the Kurdish community. Erbil is the first city in the Middle East and the tenth city in the world to sign a twinning agreement with Nashville.
