77 years have passed since the establishment of the Republic of Mahabad
Today marks the 77th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Kurdistan in Mahabad, East Kurdistan.
The Republic of Kurdistan has achieved great achievements in many fields during its 11 months of existence and has left a valuable spiritual legacy such as the name of the Peshmerga, the Kurdistan flag and the national anthem Ay Raqib to subsequent generations in all four parts of Kurdistan.
77 years ago, on January 22, 1946, in Mahabad, in the presence of 20,000 people from all regions of East Kurdistan, Leader Qazi Muhammad announced the establishment of the first Republic of Kurdistan.
On that day, these 20,000 representatives of the Kurdish people, in a statement that was later published in the eighth issue of the Kurdistan newspaper. They called on the authorities of the republic to declare independence in all places where Kurds live, start elections to the council, establish the Kurdistan National Government and the necessary ministries and offices, form the Kurdistan National Armed Forces, establish economic and trade relations with neighboring countries and strengthen ties with the Azerbaijani government.
Thus, the Kurdistan flag was hoisted on the government institutions of the republic and the foundation of the first modern Kurdish governance was laid. established a printing press and radio in Mahabad, established a cinema, presented plays, and published the Kurdistan newspaper, which was published every two days and five magazines were published, including the first Kurdish children's magazine, Grugali, which is one of the cultural and artistic achievements during 11 months of Kurdish rule in the Republic of Kurdistan.
Initiating education in the Kurdish language in schools and making the Kurdish language official in all government institutions, courts, religious institutions, and military institutions is one of the major achievements of the Kurdish language.
The Republic relied economically on the taxation system on citizens' income and exports of agricultural products. The Republic of Kurdistan was overthrown after 11 months by the Iranian army and its founders were executed.
Although the Republic lasted less than a year, it left a great spiritual legacy such as the name of the Peshmerga, the flag of Kurdistan, and the national anthem Ay Raqib, for subsequent generations of Kurds throughout Kurdistan.
