In Ankawa... The Fifth Syriac Heritage Festival was opened

This evening, Monday, April 7, 2025, in the presence of Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil; Blnd Ismail, Head of Branch 2; Ano Jawhar, Minister of Transport and Communications; Khanzad Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Women's Council; Nabaz Abdulhamid, Acting Mayor of Ankawa District; Klado Ramzi, Director of Syriac Culture; along with a number of consuls, foreign representatives, religious figures, administrative and executive officials of the district, and a large crowd, the Fifth Syriac Heritage Festival was opened in the center of Ankawa district.

 

The festival, held on the occasion of the Akitu festival, the Chaldean and Assyrian New Year, was organized by the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts. The festival, which continues for 3 days, includes various activities such as handicraft exhibitions, traditional food preparation, ethnic costume displays, and several other artistic works, with participation from Christians across Kurdistan Region's cities and towns, as well as from Syria, Russia, and Armenia.

 

After opening the festival and touring its sections, the Governor of Erbil expressed his appreciation to the supervisors and organizers, wishing success and continuity for all participants.

 

It's worth noting that Akitu, or the Chaldean and Assyrian New Year, which falls on the first day of April and continues until April 12, is considered a national festival with a history dating back to 5,500 years before Christ. As a tradition, various festivals and activities are held annually during this celebration.
