Erbil and Tehran sign an agreement to develop relations and expand mutual economic interests
On the evening of Monday, April 28, 2025, following the first meeting between Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, and Mohammad Sadegh Motamedian, Governor of Tehran, attended by delegations from both sides at the Tehran Governorate headquarters, an agreement was signed between the two governorates. This understanding aims to develop relations and expand mutual economic interests between the two governorates.
The points of the agreement are as follows:
1. Facilitating the issuance of work permits for citizens of both governorates in commercial and banking services.
2. Strengthening the Iranian Trade Advisory in Erbil.
3. Facilitating customs procedures; where possible, coordinating Erbil's efforts with Baghdad to reduce customs duties on goods and scientific products.
4. Exchange of trade delegations, organizing conferences and exhibitions, as well as the exchange of trade statistics and information, including providing lists of goods and approved requirements of both governorates.
5. Expanding cooperation between the two governorates in the field of exporting technical and engineering services, particularly in the construction and establishment industries.
6. Expanding cooperation between the two governorates in the fields of medical tourism, the export of educational, medical, and pharmaceutical services, and cultural and sports activities between the two governorates.
7. Declaring readiness for the exchange of research information and findings achievements in the fields of industry and biotechnology, medical engineering, scientific projects, and nanotechnology, and facilitating the admission acceptance of students from Erbil Governorate into educational institutions in Tehran Governorate.
8. Holding joint seasonal meetings, coordinated with officials from both Tehran and Erbil governorates through diplomatic channels. This coordination will involve the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil and the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) relations office with Iran.
9. Expanding exchanges and emphasizing the role of sharing public information and the participation of non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
