Erbil… Assistance for refugees has gradually decreased, increasing the challenges faced by the Kurdistan Regional Government in managing their needs

Today, Tuesday September 24, 2024, Hemen Qadir, Deputy Governor of Erbil, received Ramzi Al-Jamal, representative of the Norwegian Embassy in Amman for humanitarian affairs.

In the meeting, which was attended by Naz Jalal, Director of the EGCC Directorate in Erbil Governorate, Hemen Qadir, Deputy Governor of Erbil, first welcomed the guest delegation on behalf of Erbil Governorate, and thanked them for their visit and the observations and views they have about the people and government of the Kurdistan Region.

For his part, Ramzi Al-Jamal, the representative of the Norwegian Embassy in Amman, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet and discussed the nature of their humanitarian efforts, outlining the purpose of his visit to the Deputy Governor of Erbil. He also emphasized the issues surrounding migration and illegal immigration.

Hemen Qadir, the Deputy Governor of Erbil, provided an in-depth explanation of the initiatives in Erbil Governorate aimed at raising awareness about illegal immigration, mentioning the establishment of a dedicated center for this purpose. He also highlighted that, following the central government's decision to close the camps and forcibly repatriate the refugees, the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement has ceased providing aid or support to refugees in the Kurdistan Region. He stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government supplies a significant portion of the essential needs for camp refugees through the support of charitable institutions within the region, while international organizations provide additional assistance. However, overall aid for refugees has gradually declined, making the task more challenging for the Kurdistan Regional Government.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties stressed the importance of collaboration and ongoing dialogue.
