On Friday, May 2, 2025, the Governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Urmia (West Azerbaijan), the Head of the Administrative Unit in Oshnavieh city, and the Head of Relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iran, visited the Oshnavieh cemetery, the site of the 'Sheikh Babu' shrine.
The body of the immortal Kurdish leader Malla Mustafa Barzani was previously buried in this cemetery, before his pure remains were transferred in 1991 to the Kurdistan Region to be reburied in his birthplace in the Barzan region.
The remains of many martyrs of the Kurdish people, who were martyred during the Kurdish revolutions or died in exile, also rest in this cemetery.
Following the recitation of Surat Al-Fatihah, the Governor of Erbil commended the historical role of these martyrs and leaders. He pointed out that freedom, peace, and all the accomplishments witnessed today in the Kurdistan Region were achieved due to their blood, struggle, and sacrifices.
