Erbil Governor Receives FAO Director-General

On Monday evening, May 26, 2025, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, received Qu Dongyu, the Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and an accompanying delegation at the Governorate Office.


In the meeting, attended by Masoud Karash, Deputy Governor, Hamin Said Murad, Director General of Agriculture in Erbil, and Naz Jalal, EJCC Director of Erbil Governorate, the focus was on strengthening joint cooperation in agriculture, food security, and water resources. Talks also covered the effects of climate change, water scarcity problems, and tackling agricultural, water, and food issues.


The Governor of Erbil, from his side, wished for them to spend their time in the capital Erbil at ease. He then stated, "We have a recognition for all the work and programs of the UN agencies in the Region, particularly the work done in the capital Erbil. This includes the work and programs of the FAO organization, which has had a prominent role in executing development projects and achieving food security in the Kurdistan Region."


In conclusion, the Director-General of the FAO thanked the Governor of Erbil for his reception and reiterated the organization's readiness to expand its cooperation and coordination with the institutions of the Kurdistan Region and the capital Erbil.
