Erbil will be the first Middle Eastern and North African city to establish a sisterhood pact with Nashville

On the 21st of May, 2023. Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw received a delegation from Nashville led by Mayor John Cooper, as well as representatives of the city council, the board, and the chairman of the board of Nashville's sister city.

In a joint discussion, the Governor warmly welcomed the high-level delegation from Nashville and expressed his joy to meet again after their visit to Nashville, and they reviewed the roadmap for the future plan for the process of recognizing Erbil and Nashville as sister cities.

The board members acknowledged their amazement and satisfaction at being invited to an ancient and historic city like Erbil, and their efforts in raising both cities as a source of great pride.

According to Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw, Nashville is renowned as a small Kurdistan, given that a substantial portion of the Kurdish diaspora has relocated to the city and blended Kurdish and American cultures, "the Kurdish diaspora is proud" in Nashville as an example citizen in comparison to other regions of the world. They have been listed and acknowledged by American society.

The governor emphasized that the purpose of our combined meeting is to set the groundwork for the sisterhood of Erbil and Nashville, which will create a harmonious picture in the Middle East and the region in general.

The governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, hoped that the Nashville delegation would take advantage of their itinerary and appreciate this ancient city, which is thousands of years old and contains the world's oldest monuments.

It is the owner of the Citadel, Minarets, and Shanadar caverns, as well as a multicultural refuge for tens of thousands of citizens who have fled to the freedom of the Kurdistan Region and Erbil due to terrorists and a lack of democracy.

The governor emphasized the importance of expanding partnerships, particularly in the fields of education, health, culture, arts, and sports, and he also discussed boosting scientific and academic ties between Erbil and Nashville.

The governor praised everyone who helped bring the idea of sisterhood between Erbil and Nashville to its current level. The guest delegation expressed their delight in visiting the Erbil Governor's Office and hailed the Governor for the warm reception they received before exchanging gifts with him.

It is worth recalling that last year, a high-level delegation led by Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw visited the United States and Nashville and held several meetings to promote relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States in the fields of trade, investment, and job opportunities for US companies, as well as to benefit from this country's experience for the further development of Erbil, the Kurdistan Region's capital.
